Everyone in this house is sick. The kids missed maybe 1 or 2 days of school all winter. I couldn't believe how well the winter went. Friday night Jacob started to get a fever, He was sick all day Sat. Sunday morning Emma woke up sick. She had to miss a friends birthday party. By Sunday evening Chrissy and I were both ill. This really sucks!!! Oh well I'm going to drink some Neo citran and go back to bed.
When I was 15-16 my big brother Rob and I used to watch this documentary.

Connections: An alternate view of change. This show is from 1978, I love the way he explains the links between inventions. Each episode is about 50 min.

A couple weeks ago I was driving down a country road to see a friend. There was a car on the other side of the road driving very slowly on the shoulder. I slowed down a little to see what was going on. There was a lady driving, she was maybe in her late forties. She looked rough, by rough I mean the kind of lady you can tell has lived a hard life. There were also 2 kids running in and out of the ditch that runs along the road. The kids looked happy, they were maybe 10 and 12. They were collecting beer and liquor bottles. As I was passing them so was another car. The couple in the other car also slowed and I could see them laughing and pointing. Its hard to guess the story that goes along with this. I have thought about them since I saw them. In my mind the kids were helping their mom collect the bottles to pay for groceries or maybe rent. Maybe if they collected enough they could go to McDonald's. On my way home they were gone. I wondered if they had moved on to another ditch or maybe they had collected enough. I don't know why this has been stuck in my head. I did feel sorry for them but the kids looked so happy they were smiling and laughing. I hope that life will get better for this family. Or maybe this is a better life for them. Who knows. What I do know is that those kids were enjoying themselves collecting what others had thrown away.

Songs for my family

For Chrissy, Bron-Y-Aur, Stomp Led Zeppelin
As we walk down a country lane,
I'll be singing a song,
Hear me calling your name.
Hear the whisper in the trees,
Telling Mother Nature 'bout you and me.

For Emma I'm a Believer, the Monkeys.
And then I saw her face
Now I'm a believer
Not a trace
Of doubt in my mind
I'm in love
I'm a believer
I couldn't leave her
If I tried

For Jacob, Simple Man, Lynrd Skynrd.
Forget your lust for the rich mans gold
All that you need is in your soul,
And you can do this if you try.
All that I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.

I heard this story on the radio today and thought I'd share. Topsy the Elephant was put to death by electrocution. Topsy was a circus elephant from the early 1900's. She was part of an attraction at Coney Island, New York. She was responsible for killing 3 men including one who tried to feed her a lit cigarette. Her handlers decided that she had to be killed. At first they thought they should hang her but the ASPCA protested. So Thomas Edison stepped in and helped with the electrocution. He used 6000 volts to kill Topsy.
